AP Literature is one big "lift" that can seem heavier than anything you can imagine. Read on to understand the analogy between this class and the sport of power-lifting.
The difference between those who succeed and fail: not taking advantage of opportunities - Eric Thomas
Introduction: Connecting AP Literature with Real Life
AP lit draws similarities to power-lifting in the that it's something not a lot of people can do; the people that are able to do it are a special breed and they are often given a platform to show off their "STRENGTH."
The Three Big Lessons I've Taken from AP Lit
1. Hard work and Preparation just as important in AP lit as it is in power-lifting. You don't start lifting the day before the meet and expect to see great results; same with AP lit--without continuous hard work, you won't see your skills progress in your writing, analyzing skills, etc.
2. Don't put all your hard work to waste, now it's time to "show off" everything you've been working for. Now it's time to lift some heavy weight, or show your teacher how your ability to analyze has helped you progress to an even better writer.
3. After the big "lift" don't stop--keep going. Just like how you can always become stronger, you can always become a better student, writer, or reader. The ability to go even farther after such an accomplishment shows the true character you have to anyone that is keeping a close eye.

Establishing a Work Ethic
1. Persistent and Consistent - Keeping focus for a long amount of time as well as maintaining your drive will lead to positive results.
2. Balance- You need to be able to balance your continuous work with other things; make sure you don't overwork yourself. 3. Don't procrastinate- Being prompt and on time with your work shows true character. |
Time to Show Off Your Strength
Don't Stop, Keep going
1. Applying Skills in other aspects of life- In this class I have been given many different tools that will positively effect things i do in the future.
2. Focus on Weaknesses- You may be a strong AP lit student, however, there is always room to grow! 3. Recognize your accomplishments- Don't be so hard on yourself--sometimes it's okay to take a step back and admire the success you have created for yourself. |
Conclusion
This class has given all of us the OPPORTUNITY to succeed in many different areas. It's up to only us to take the things we have learned and fulfill this golden opportunity to become a better student, person, etc. If I could leave everyone here with one lesson it would be to always work harder than the next person-- people notice.
